This original artwork by Catalan artist Alícia Gómez is inspired by the agave, a plant that can live up to 25 years yet blooms only once in its lifetime, producing a towering stem crowned with yellow flowers before dying. Discovered as a deeply poetic natural cycle, it becomes a reflection on time, transformation, and impermanence.
Native to Mexico but rooted in the Mediterranean landscape for centuries, the agave grows along rocky coastlines, cliffsides and coastal paths across Catalonia. This piece depicts an agave in bloom set against a Mediterranean cove, with the sun rising over the sea, a typical scene of the Costa Brava.
The composition combines simple forms with a vibrant palette of deep green, ochre, Mediterranean blue and the intense red of the sun. As a hand-painted original work, it is created with flat layers of opaque colour and a matte, velvety surface, expressed through a minimal, contemporary visual language. Ideal for living rooms, bedrooms or workspaces seeking a sense of light and landscape.
